The short answer
Choose by four things, in order: how many guests, what the venue is like underfoot, the look you want, and whether you need full air conditioning. For most large, cooled Dubai events the clearspan marquee is the safe default; for desert and beach events a stretch tent wins; and for a soft, romantic garden wedding a sailcloth marquee is hard to beat.
1. Start with your guest count
Size drives everything else. A structure that is cramped feels cheap, and one that is too big feels empty and costs more to cool. As a rough rule in Dubai, plan on about 1.2 to 1.8 square metres per seated guest once you add a stage, dance floor and a buffet or majlis, our wedding tent size guide breaks the numbers down.
- Up to around 100 guests: A pagoda or frame structure, or a smaller clearspan, keeps the space intimate without feeling tight.
- 100 to 300 guests: A clearspan marquee gives an open, pillar-free floor you can lay out freely.
- 300 to 500 plus guests: A large clearspan, built in bays, scales further than any other structure and cools evenly across the span.
For the biggest events, a clearspan or a double decker structure gives you the floor area, and in some cases a second level, that a single-storey tent cannot.
2. Match the structure to the ground
What the marquee stands on matters as much as its size. A villa lawn, a paved forecourt, a beach and open desert each suit different structures and different anchoring.
- Villa lawns and gardens: A clearspan or sailcloth marquee on lawn-safe flooring works beautifully for a home wedding or party.
- Desert and uneven ground: A stretch tent flexes to the terrain and pegs into soft sand, ideal out at Al Qudra and Al Marmoom.
- Beaches and the shoreline: An open or clear-top structure with weighted, sand-safe anchoring, never ground stakes.
- Paved plazas and rooftops: A frame or pagoda structure, self-supporting and weighted, so nothing is drilled into the ground.
3. Decide on the look and feel
Two structures can hold the same number of guests and feel completely different. The roofline and the walls set the mood long before the styling goes in.
- Soft, romantic daylight: A sailcloth marquee glows as light passes through its translucent canvas and sweeping peaks.
- Skyline and starlit views: A transparent, clear-top marquee opens the roof to the sky and the Dubai skyline, best with cooling.
- Clean, modern and brandable: A frame tent gives flat, solid walls that take printing and lining for a corporate look.
- A bold feature statement: A pyramid, dome or arcum structure becomes the centrepiece of the event in its own right.

4. Plan for air conditioning from the start
In Dubai, cooling is not an afterthought. From roughly April to October, and for any daytime event, the structure has to be sealable and easy to duct. A framed clearspan is the simplest to fully air condition, while a clear-top marquee needs extra cooling because the roof lets the sun in. An open stretch tent suits cooler evenings and the winter season. If you are unsure, our guide on whether Dubai wedding tents need air conditioning covers it in detail.
A quick pick by event type
If you want the short version, here is where most Dubai events land:
- Large wedding or gala: Clearspan marquee, fully air conditioned
- Romantic garden wedding: Sailcloth marquee for the glow
- Desert wedding or camp: Stretch tent or Bedouin majlis
- Corporate launch or exhibition: Frame or clearspan, branded and AV-ready
- Ramadan or family majlis: Cooled majlis tent with Sadu seating
- Premium, starlit celebration: Transparent clear-top, always cooled
